"Taken as a compilation, the iconoclastic sounds collated on Underground London don't always cohere on common ground but they do signify a certain, distinctive sensibility: a sallying forth into uncharted waters that values a sense of adventure and eschews musical and cultural borders. Its sheer sweep and frame of reference offer a welcome reminder of a crazily fertile era of cross-pollination and radical innovation"

"Stellar second volume of 60s cultural firebombs: A formidable array of free jazz messengers, beat poet luminaries and musique concrete pioneers to again illustrate how much the mid-60s counterculture explosion drew inspiration from existing sources that were humping the outer limits' fenceposts like questing dogs on heat years earlier. Astutely annotated, the mind-blasting barrage of babble, skronk and plinky-plonk includes jazz titans Sun Ra, Coltrane, Ayler, Coleman, Davis, Monk, Rollins, Dolphy, Taylor and, commendably, overlooked UK tenor giant Joe Harriott. Beat poets include Ginsberg, Ferlinghetti and Kerouac, while experimental sonic mavericks number Stockhausen, Cage, Berio and Ligeti. Obvious roll-call, perhaps, but many are in for a treat"

"Underground London provides an interesting cocktail of the words and music that helped to influence those who created the art and sounds of the later 60s ... An absorbing booklet accompanying the set has detailed track and artist notes together with comments and anecdotes from those involved in the alternative scene at the time"
