Can AI be sustainable? Raghavendra Selvan from the University of Copenhagen will take us through climate-costs of AI, solutions for more sustainable AI and how we can help as individuals

AI – artificial intelligence – is changing the world, but with “big data” comes big data centers, and with them, a huge environmental cost. But how big is that cost really? And can AI help solve the climate crisis?

Raghavendra Selvan is an assistant professor at University of Copenhagen, author of the book “Sustainable AI”, and has done extensive research into the subject of AI, machine learning and climate costs. He will take us through some of his research, looking into the actual environmental costs of AI, how we can work toward sustainable AI, and what we can do ourselves to minimize our own carbon footprints in a world, where AI is integrated more and more into our work and home life.

Please note: The talk will be held in English.

During the talk, listeners can enjoy a “fyraftensøl” (beer) or water. If you subscribe to the library’s newsletter (link), you get the first one for free.
